Veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra, who passed away on 24 November, leaves behind a legacy celebrated by fans and filmmakers alike. For director Anil Sharma, however, the loss also signifies an unfinished dream — the long-anticipated sequel Apne 2.
Sharma told that the film, intended to unite three generations of the Deol family, cannot proceed without Dharmendra. “Apne to apno ke bina nahi ho sakti. Without Dharamji, it’s impossible to make the sequel,” he said. Although the script was ready and pre-production was nearly complete, the project collapsed following the actor’s demise. “Some dreams remain unfulfilled,” Sharma added.
The filmmaker and Dharmendra had collaborated on several films in the past, including Hukumat and Apne. Apne 2 was set to feature Dharmendra alongside Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, and Karan Deol, but despite being announced years ago, shooting never began.
Sharma recalled his last meeting with Dharmendra in October, when the actor expressed his enduring passion for cinema: “Anil, koi acchi kahani laa… camera meri mehbooba hai.” The remark reflected Dharmendra’s love for acting even in his final months.
Dharmendra’s last film, Ikkis, directed by Sriram Raghavan and starring Agastya Nanda, is set to release on 25 December. The film now carries added emotional significance, arriving exactly one month after the veteran actor’s passing.
