Karachi administration imposes rickshaw ban on key roads
The city administration of Karachi has expanded its ban on 3-seater and 5-seater rickshaws, now covering 26 major roads instead of the previous 20, according to an official notification.
The decision, made on the advice of the DIG Traffic, aims to improve traffic flow across the city. Under Section 144, the Commissioner of Karachi has enforced the ban immediately, preventing rickshaws from entering roads from Sharah-e-Faisal to I.I. Chundrigar Road. The earlier restrictions will remain in effect from October 18 to December 17.
Police officers (SHOs) have been instructed to take action against violators, while other city departments and deputy commissioners will ensure strict enforcement. Additionally, a complete ban on 1+4 rickshaws has been imposed on six more major roads.
Officials say the restrictions are meant to enhance public safety, manage traffic better, and make commuting easier for citizens. The new rules will remain in force for the same period as the earlier notification.
