PAC Sub-Committee Discusses Drug Cultivation in KP

A meeting of the sub-committee of the Public Accounts Committee, chaired by Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, discussed the issue of drug cultivation and trafficking in Pakistan. During the meeting, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry highlighted news reports about the cultivation of various drugs in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and inquired about the measures being taken to prevent drug production in the province.

The DG ANF (Director General of the Anti-Narcotics Force) noted that drugs have been increasing in Afghanistan over the past few years and that last year, the challenge of drugs coming from Afghanistan was significant. He emphasized that efforts made last year were crucial in providing solutions today. However, he pointed out that security conditions in some areas remain poor and stressed that terrorism and drug trafficking are closely linked.

Tariq Fazal Chaudhry also raised questions regarding problems at the Pak-Afghan border and other areas of Pakistan. The DG ANF responded that the ANF works closely with other forces on the border and, despite the many challenges, is actively addressing the situation. He highlighted that major drug groups have been exposed and appropriate actions have been taken.

Regarding smuggling, the DG ANF clarified that there is no distinction between declared or undeclared smuggling, and all cases are dealt with. He also paid tribute to the many young personnel who have been martyred or injured in the line of duty while stopping smuggling operations.
