13 December, 2025 12:50

In a meeting with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated the country’s determination to carry out an agreement on a comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia.

Pezeshkian made the comments on Friday while attending the International Conference on Peace and Trust in Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan.

The Iranian president praised Russia’s backing of the Islamic Republic in international forums and expressed his happiness with the growing Tehran-Moscow relationship.

He stated, “We are determined to implement the agreement and put it into operation,” referring to the long-term strategic cooperation pact that Iran and Russia signed on January 17, 2025.

“Joint cooperation, particularly in the fields of power generation, transportation, and transit corridors, is currently being pursued. Regarding the [North-South] corridor, Iran will fully prepare the grounds for the project’s implementation by the end of the year,” he said.

Pezeshkian added that the two nations’ agricultural collaboration is very advantageous and that the concept may be extended to other industries.

“In order to confront unilateralism, we have no alternative but joint cooperation, particularly through international and regional organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS,” he urged.

According to Putin, relations between Iran and Russia are “developing very positively.”

He added that the two nations are closely collaborating on Iran’s nuclear problem and exploring partnerships in the areas of gas and energy.

He noted that Moscow and Tehran are working together on a number of projects, such as the North-South highway and the Bushehr nuclear power facility.

As per Putin, trade between Russia and Iran grew by 8% this year and 13% last year.

Western sanctions against Iran and Russia are unlawful. Over the years, they have improved their relationships in a number of areas.

Iran’s right to a peaceful nuclear energy program has been consistently upheld by Russia.
