Punjab Government Launches CM Free Bikes Scheme for Orphan Students

16 December, 2025 10:04

The Punjab Transport Secretary has announced that free bikes will be provided to orphan students following a thorough verification process. The initiative, named CM Free Bikes for Orphan Students, is part of the Punjab government’s efforts to alleviate financial barriers that prevent students from continuing their education. The progress of the scheme was recently reviewed in a steering committee meeting chaired by Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar.

The CM Free Bikes scheme aims to support orphan students by improving their mobility and offering practical assistance to help them continue their education.

Scheme Details

The Transport Secretary explained that students must undergo complete document verification to ensure that only deserving candidates benefit from the program. This scheme specifically targets students facing financial difficulties that hinder their ability to reach educational institutions. By providing bikes, the Punjab government hopes to make commuting easier, reduce education-related expenses, and enable students to pursue their studies without interruption.

Enrollment and Success of the Program

Enrollment for the scheme is now open, and thousands of students have already received bikes, marking a successful rollout. According to the Transport Secretary, students on the waiting list will also be accommodated, ensuring that no deserving student is left out. The initiative has significantly improved students’ access to education by making travel more convenient and affordable.

Benefits of the Scheme

The CM Free Bikes program offers multiple advantages. Orphan students can now travel to their educational institutions without financial stress, reducing reliance on public transport and gaining greater autonomy in their commute. This increased mobility is expected to enhance academic performance, improve attendance, and raise the overall quality of education for beneficiaries.

Future Plans

The Transport Secretary highlighted that, following the scheme’s success, its scope will be further expanded. The Punjab government is collaborating with educational institutions to ensure the program reaches even more students in need.

This initiative represents a significant step toward providing practical support to financially disadvantaged students and ensuring equal educational opportunities for all.
