Case filed against Bihar CM Nitish Kumar over niqab incident

A formal case has been registered against the Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar, after he forcibly removed the niqab (face veil) of a female Muslim doctor.

The complaint was filed in Lucknow by Sumaiya Rana, a leader of the Samajwadi Party. The incident took place on Monday in Patna during an official ceremony, where appointment letters were being distributed to medical professionals.

During the event, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was seen pulling off the doctor’s face veil on stage, an act that has been described as prejudiced and narrow-minded.

The incident has drawn strong criticism. Amnesty International India condemned the act, calling it a violation of women’s rights.
