K-Electric Intensifies Anti-Theft Operations, Removes 200kg of Illegal Wiring

17 December, 2025 21:05

K-Electric (KE) has continued its crackdown on electricity theft in a bid to reduce distribution losses, removing nearly 200 kilogrammes of illegal hooked connections (kunda) during a recent operation in Metroville, Orangi Town. The utility said the illegal connections were responsible for an estimated loss of around 350,000 electricity units per month.

According to KE, the latest operation is part of an ongoing effort to curb power theft in the area. Since the start of the current fiscal year, KE’s field teams have carried out 209 kunda-removal drives across Orangi, targeting 64 pole-mounted transformers (PMTs). During these operations, approximately 6,000kg of illegal wiring was removed, which had been contributing to losses of nearly 11 million units per month.

The company said targeted enforcement actions have been conducted in several neighbourhoods, including Metroville, Al-Fateh Colony, Abidabad, Sultanabad, Bijli Nagar, Ibrahim Ali Bhai, Ali Garh Bazar, Haryana Colony, and nearby localities. These areas continue to report high theft-related losses, placing strain on KE’s distribution network, damaging infrastructure, and posing serious safety risks to residents.

KE spokesperson Imran Rana highlighted the need for community cooperation to address the issue. “KE is committed to eliminating illegal connections and improving the area’s loss profile so that residents can benefit from reliable and uninterrupted power.

We urge citizens to use metered, legal connections installed by KE professionals, and ensure timely bill payments to receive sustainable supply.”

The utility also appealed to community leaders and residents to support recovery efforts by helping reduce outstanding dues and by reporting electricity theft anonymously through K-Electric’s digital platforms or via speakup@ke.com.pk.

KE reaffirmed its commitment to improving recoveries and facilitating the transition from illegal to legal connections, noting that reducing electricity theft and ensuring timely bill payments are key to minimising load-shedding and enabling a stable and reliable power supply.
