Iran Condemns US Sanctions on International Court Judges
The Iranian Foreign Ministry condemned the US sanctions on International Court of Justice judges, saying the move would further free war criminals.
In this regard, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmail Baqai has said that the US’s imposition of sanctions on judges of the International Criminal Court is a cruel move that will allow war criminals to evade the law and act freely.
In a statement on social media, he said that on the one hand, genocidal war criminals are roaming free and committing serious atrocities and crimes against humanity, and on the other hand, the US State Department is pressuring and imposing sanctions on individuals who are trying to hold these wanted criminals accountable.
He added that all this is moral bankruptcy that will give criminals more opportunity to escape the law.
Notably, on Thursday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that International Criminal Court judges Gocha Lord Kapandzi of Georgia and Jordan Balsorn Damdan of Mongolia directly participated in efforts to investigate, arrest, detain, or prosecute Israeli citizens without obtaining permission from Israel.
The International Criminal Court in The Hague issued arrest warrants on November 21, 2024, against Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Galant on charges of war crimes, crimes against humanity, and the deliberate starvation of the people of Gaza.
