Japanese woman weds AI Chatbot in unusual ceremony
A woman in Japan has married an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot powered by ChatGPT, in a rare and unusual event that has drawn wide attention.
The wedding ceremony took place in western Japan. The bride wore a traditional white wedding dress, but the groom was not physically present at the event.
The groom was not a human but an AI character named “Claus,” created using ChatGPT technology. The bride, 32-year-old call center worker Yurika Noguchi, shared her story about how their relationship developed.
Noguchi explained that Claus first existed as a conversation-based video game character. Over time, their chats became more personal and meaningful.
She said her first conversation with Claus happened after she ended her engagement with a human partner. As they continued talking, she developed emotional feelings for the AI, and the relationship slowly turned romantic.
According to Noguchi, Claus later proposed marriage, which she accepted. She now considers herself married to the AI, calling their bond real and meaningful to her.
