Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar Calls for Charter of Politics to Ensure Stability and Progress

21 December, 2025 20:35

Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar has called for the creation of a “charter of politics” aimed at fostering political maturity, stability, and the overall progress of the nation. Speaking at a seminar in Aiwan-e-Iqbal, Lahore, on Sunday, Tarar emphasized that the proposed charter was not meant for any individual or political party but was for the benefit of the entire nation.

Tarar stressed that the people responsible for “playing with the country’s fate” were now clearly visible to the public. He highlighted the importance of adopting a positive approach towards criticism, promoting tolerance, and engaging with political opponents. According to Tarar, politics is an ongoing process that requires wisdom, patience, and constructive dialogue.

He acknowledged the prevalence of extremism in Pakistan’s political landscape and pointed out that it was the responsibility of politicians to address political issues with caution and wisdom. The minister warned against allowing extremism and violence to dictate political affairs, underlining that such elements must not be allowed to control the course of the nation’s political future.

Tarar also highlighted Pakistan’s need for political dialogue, stability, and economic progress. He firmly stated that “without these, progress is not possible.”

Rana Sanaullah Stresses Political Dialogue for National Stability

During the same seminar, Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah echoed similar sentiments, stressing that political stability was crucial for sustainable national development. He stated that dialogue, tolerance, and respect for state institutions were the foundation of any nation’s long-term success.

Sanaullah made it clear that no country could advance through conflict, violence, or anarchy. He also condemned attacks on defense installations, calling them completely unacceptable under any circumstances. Referring to his recent meetings with PTI founder Imran Khan at Adiala Jail, he stated that any reconsideration of restrictions on such meetings would only happen once it was evident that the individuals involved had renounced violence and unrest.

The PM’s adviser also discussed the political situation following PTI’s march on Islamabad in May 2022, asserting that if the march had not taken place, assemblies would have been dissolved, and elections would have been held. He added that dialogue regarding elections had resumed afterward, and matters were close to resolution, although PTI leadership had sought permission from its founder, which was denied.

Sanaullah emphasized that political instability arises when parties abandon dialogue in favor of confrontation. He urged for transparency and accountability, asking, “If we are the ones obstructing dialogue, tell us; if it is someone else, name them.” He lamented the PTI’s refusal of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s offer for dialogue ahead of the budget passage on June 30, describing it as a missed opportunity for peace and stability.
