CDF Field Marshal Asim Munir Awarded King Abdulaziz Medal by Saudi Arabia
Riyadh: Saudi Arabia has honoured Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces and Army Chief, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, with the King Abdulaziz Medal (Excellent Class) on Wednesday. The award was given in recognition of his strong role in improving defence and strategic ties between the two countries.
Medal Presented During High-Level Meeting in Riyadh
The medal was presented by Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz during a formal meeting in the Saudi capital. Senior defence officials from both sides were also present.
Saudi officials said the honour reflects appreciation for Field Marshal Munir’s continued efforts to strengthen military cooperation and long-term strategic relations with the Kingdom.
Saudi Defence Minister Praises Pakistan’s Role
Prince Khalid congratulated Field Marshal Munir on taking charge as Chief of Defence Forces. He wished him success in his new role and praised Pakistan’s positive contribution to regional peace and security.
He also acknowledged Pakistan’s professional armed forces and their role in promoting stability in the region.
Talks Focus on Defence and Strategic Cooperation
During the meeting, both sides reviewed the historic and close relationship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. Discussions focused on expanding defence collaboration and improving military-to-military coordination.
The leaders also discussed joint efforts for regional and global peace, along with other matters of mutual interest.
Medal Awarded on King’s Instructions
In a message shared on social media, Prince Khalid said the medal was awarded on the instructions of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques. He described Field Marshal Munir’s efforts as key to advancing Saudi-Pakistan defence relations.
One of Saudi Arabia’s Highest Civil Honours
The King Abdulaziz Medal is among Saudi Arabia’s most prestigious honours. It is awarded in several categories to individuals who provide outstanding services to the Kingdom or support its national interests.
Defence Ties Continue to Grow
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have recently taken important steps to further strengthen defence ties. Earlier this year, both countries signed a Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement. Under this agreement, an attack on one country would be treated as an attack on both.
Saudi military leadership has also shown strong interest in expanding cooperation with Pakistan in areas such as training, security coordination, and defence planning.
Officials from both sides have expressed satisfaction over the progress made and reaffirmed their commitment to long-term strategic partnership.
