Anupam Kher’s Tanvi The Great Enters Oscars 2026 Race

Indian cinema’s representation at the 98th Academy Awards continues to gain momentum. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has officially released a list of 201 feature films eligible for the Best Picture category, confirming that all selected titles have met the additional eligibility criteria beyond standard submissions.

A total of 317 feature films have been confirmed as eligible for the 98th Academy Awards, with 201 competing in the Best Picture category. The Oscars eligibility list also includes several Indian projects, such as Rishab Shetty’s Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1, Anupam Kher’s Tanvi The Great, Tourist Family, Mahavatar Narsimha, and Radhika Apte–starrer Sister Midnight.

Tanvi The Great is directed by Anupam Kher, while Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1 is helmed by Rishab Shetty. Tourist Family marks the debut of Tamil filmmaker Abishan Jeevinth, Mahavatar Narsimha is a multilingual animated feature, and Sister Midnight is a Hindi-language UK–India co-production starring Radhika Apte.

Anupam Kher Reacts to Tanvi The Great Being Shortlisted for Oscars 2026

Veteran actor Anupam Kher expressed his excitement on Twitter, saying:

“Oscar… Best Film… Shortlist… Tanvi The Great. Every year, thousands of films from across the globe compete for the most prestigious film awards, #OSCARS! Millions of people in the industry work tirelessly to earn recognition from @TheAcademy. Being included already places a film among the very best in the business. While getting nominated or winning would be the ultimate achievement, making it to the list of the top 200 films worldwide, as determined by the #98thAcademyAwards committee, is already a remarkable success for team #TanviTheGreat!”

Meanwhile, Tanvi The Great tells the story of Tanvi Raina, a 21-year-old with autism, as she navigates life with her family while striving to fulfill her late father’s dream of raising India’s flag at Siachen.

The film features a star-studded cast, including Anupam Kher, Shubhangi Dutt, Arvind Swami, Iain Glen, Boman Irani, Jackie Shroff, Pallavi Joshi, and Karan Tacker.
