Iran Calls U.S. Exit from Ain al-Asad a Win for Iraq’s Sovereignty
The U.S. withdrawal from Ain al-Asad and the transfer of the facility to Baghdad, according to Iran’s foreign minister, is a sign of increased stability and sovereignty in Iraq.
Iran’s foreign minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, described the evacuation of the Ain al-Asad base by U.S. forces and its transfer to the Iraqi government as an indication of improved political stability and sovereignty in Iraq on Sunday following a meeting and consultation with Iraq’s foreign minister, Fouad Hussein.
According to Pars Today, Araghchi expressed hope that Iraq’s new administration will be formed soon and pointed out that the Iran-Iraq borders have evolved into areas of friendliness and cooperation in a number of areas, including the commercial and commerce sectors.
He highlighted Iraq’s expanding regional influence, saying that Iran is prepared to work with Iraq in this area and that the Iraqi government may positively influence the alignment of the viewpoints and stances of nations in the region.
Iran wants a stable, independent Iraq with strong political sovereignty, the Iranian foreign minister continued, adding that there is a “mutual share of security interests and challenges between Iran and Iraq.” He noted that Iraq has all the resources needed to attain this position.
Araghchi continued, “Iran is prepared to facilitate and expedite movement between the people of the two countries,” citing the people-to-people ties between the two countries and the presence of certain Iraqi students studying in Iran.
The head of Iran’s diplomacy also emphasized the need to increase economic cooperation between Iran and Iraq, stating that although current trade relations are at a good level, there is considerable potential to grow them even further.
The security of Iran and Iraq is a crucial component of regional security, and the security of the Iranian people is crucial for Iraq in the same way as regional security is crucial, according to Iraq’s Foreign Minister, who expressed his joy at visiting Tehran.
Since Baghdad emphasizes the idea of the “indivisibility of regional security” and holds that each nation’s stability ensures the security of its neighbors, Fouad Hussein underlined that it is especially crucial for Iran and Iraq to exchange ideas in the current situation. He emphasized the need for non-interference in other nations’ domestic affairs while advocating for ongoing engagement to address regional issues within this framework.
