Murree Expressway N75 shut for all vehicles due to heavy snowfall

23 January, 2026 14:30

ISLAMABAD: Authorities have temporarily closed the Murree Expressway for traffic because of heavy snowfall to prevent accidents and ensure public safety.

The National Highways and Motorway Police said that all vehicles are stopped from entering the expressway from Phagran Toll Plaza toward Murree as a precaution. Officials have asked the public to avoid unnecessary travel until weather and road conditions improve.

The closure aims to prevent accidents and reduce traffic congestion caused by the ongoing snow. Reports show that Murree has received nearly 1.5 feet of snow, while the Galyat region recorded 2 feet.

With many visitors heading to Murree, local authorities are working hard to manage traffic and keep people safe. The District Police Officer (DPO) has been on the ground, supervising traffic control and emergency response teams.

Traffic Situation

Murree Police reported a sharp rise in vehicles entering the district:

  • By 9:20 pm Thursday: 10,741 vehicles entered, 9,544 left

  • Main city areas: 9,551 arrived, 7,469 exited, leaving 2,082 vehicles inside

  • Past 24 hours: 11,339 vehicles arrived, with 2,278 vehicles in crowded areas

Safety Instructions for Travelers

With a snowstorm approaching, the DPO advised motorists to:

  • Use snow chains to avoid slipping on icy roads

  • Keep fuel tanks full so heaters can work during delays

Authorities continue to monitor the situation and ask everyone to follow instructions for a safe journey.
