Public Holiday Announced in Lahore on February 6 for Basant Festival

Lahore,: The Punjab government has announced a local public holiday in Lahore on February 6 to mark the traditional Basant festival. The decision was taken on the recommendation of the district administration to allow citizens to celebrate the event.

According to official sources, the district administration had earlier proposed a holiday on February 5. However, since February 5 is already a nationwide public holiday on Kashmir Day, the Punjab government approved February 6 as a local holiday instead.

This means that residents of Lahore will enjoy two consecutive holidays, giving families extra time to take part in Basant celebrations.

Permission for Families and Children

The Deputy Commissioner of Lahore said that families and children are allowed to celebrate Basant within their homes. Children under the age of 18 can take part in the festival only under the supervision of their parents.

The administration said the aim of the decision is to provide safe entertainment for citizens while maintaining law and order across the city.

Security and Safety Measures

District authorities said all relevant departments have been directed to ensure peace and security during the festival. Special instructions have been issued to control risky activities.

Citizens have been advised to avoid aerial firing, metal or chemical kite strings, and any dangerous behaviour that could lead to accidents.

A Traditional Festival in Lahore

Basant is considered one of Lahore’s most popular traditional festivals. It is usually celebrated with kite flying, family gatherings, and cultural activities.

The announcement of a local public holiday has been welcomed by residents, who see it as an opportunity to revive cultural traditions in a safe and organised way.
