Gul Plaza Tragedy: Death Toll Rises to 73 as Search Enters Final Stage
According to Edhi officials, the death toll in the Gul Plaza tragedy reached 73 on Monday as the search operation neared completion.
In addition, the remains of two more human bodies were transferred to the Edhi morgue today, and 22 bodies, including two women, have been handed over to their heirs.
On the other hand, Deputy Commissioner South Javed Nabi Khoso while talking to the media said that the search operation that has been going on for the past 9 days has now entered its final stages. According to him, the survey team will once again conduct a complete inspection of the affected building today, after which the building will be formally sealed.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the death toll in the Gul Plaza tragedy has increased to 73, while the list of missing persons includes 79 names. He said that so far there are 13 people whose relatives have not submitted DNA samples nor are they in contact with the authorities.
He clarified that DNA samples of 55 families have been obtained so far, while the remaining individuals have been given a deadline of today. If no contact is made by the stipulated time, they will be considered excluded from the list.
According to Javed Nabi Khoso, DNA samples of three to four people have been taken from some families, while six people were identified in the initial days. So far, a total of 23 deceased people have been identified. He said that the ground floor and mezzanine floor of Gul Plaza have been completely cleared, while a part is still left, which is being searched.
DC South appealed to citizens to avoid going near the affected building as the area has been cordoned off. They said that public safety is the top priority and caution is necessary to avoid any untoward incident.
