Karachi Express Train Service Suspended Due to Low Passengers – March 2026 Update

Train Services Halted From Quetta Amid Security Concerns
Karachi, March 4, 2026: Pakistan Railways has officially suspended the Karachi Express (15-Up / 16-Down) train service between Karachi and Lahore due to persistently low passenger numbers. Travelers on this key route are now advised to use the Pak Business Express (33-Up / 34-Down) as an alternative.
Reason for Suspension
Railway officials confirmed that declining ridership on the Karachi-Lahore corridor prompted the decision. Over recent months, the train has consistently struggled to fill seats, making operations unsustainable.
Alternate Travel Option: Pak Business Express
Passengers affected by the suspension are being accommodated on the Pak Business Express, which follows the same route and schedule suitable for business and daily commuters.
Pak Business Express Timings:
Karachi to Lahore (33-Up): Departs Karachi Cantt at 4:00 PM, arrives Lahore at 10:20 AM next day.
Lahore to Karachi (34-Down): Departs Lahore at 4:00 PM, arrives Karachi Cantt at 11:20 AM.
Passengers holding Karachi Express tickets are eligible for rebooking or full refunds. Officials recommend visiting the Karachi Cantt or Lahore Junction reservation offices promptly for assistance.
This move is part of Pakistan Railways’ ongoing adjustments to manage low occupancy on long-distance routes. Similar suspensions or schedule changes have affected other trains during off-peak periods or economic slowdowns.
Passengers are advised to check railways.gov.pk or contact helplines for real-time updates on train services and resumption dates for Karachi Express.
