Karachi Police Launch Traffic Plan Ahead of Eid Shopping Rush
March 5, 2026: The Karachi Traffic Police have announced a detailed traffic management plan to handle the expected Eid shopping crowd. The initiative aims to ease congestion in busy markets and along major city roads during the festive season.
Additional Personnel Deployed Across City
Traffic Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Syed Pir Muhammad Shah said traffic staff and section officers have been stationed at shopping centres and crowded markets.
Duty hours: 7 PM until late night
Goal: Ensure smooth traffic flow and manage Eid shopping rush
Additional personnel deployed on main roads for better movement
Rickshaw, Taxi, and Commercial Vehicle Restrictions
To prevent gridlocks, authorities have implemented restrictions on rickshaws, taxis, and commercial vehicles along key routes:
Allah Wali Chowrangi to Ittehad Signal: No rickshaws
Fawara Chowk to GPO & Singer Chowk to Zeb-un-Nisa Street: Restricted entry
Tibet Chowk to Eidgah Chowk & Jama Cloth Market: Vehicle limitations
Main Rashid Minhas Road: Traffic regulation applied
Commercial vehicles coming from Drigh Road will be rerouted via Millennium Bridge to Nipa. Rickshaws and taxis are barred from passing under the bridge.
Diversions for Heavy Traffic Areas
In congested areas like Hyderi Market:
Commercial traffic from North Karachi diverted via Five Star Chowrangi → Shahrah-e-Noor Jahan → Landi Kotal Chowrangi
Vehicles from Board Office advised to take KDA Chowrangi → Ziauddin Chowrangi → Shahrah-e-Noor Jahan
Motorists from MA Jinnah Road should follow Singer Chowk → Preedy Street → Saddar Dawakhana.
From KPT Underpass, traffic is advised toward Clifton Bridge via Bath Island, with alternate routes in Clifton via Teen Talwar, Racecourse, or Chaudhry Khaliq-uz-Zaman Road. Vehicles from Sohrab Goth’s Sajan Kanta area should take Sarfaraz Ghouri Road.
Illegal Stands to Be Removed
Authorities have warned that illegal rickshaw and taxi stands near supermarkets will not be tolerated to prevent bottlenecks. Commercial vehicle drivers have been instructed to use alternative routes from Allah Wali to Noorani Signal, Medi Care, Shahrah-e-Millat Road, Fawara Chowk to MR Kiyani Chowk, and Sarwar Shaheed Road via Coast Guard to reach Regal or Tibet Centre.
DIG Shah Urges Public Cooperation
DIG Shah requested all citizens and motorists to follow the issued traffic plan, cooperate with traffic staff, and adhere to road rules. The aim is to ensure a smooth and orderly traffic flow during the busy Eid shopping period.
