Nawazuddin Siddiqui Slams ‘Fake Films’ Trend in Bollywood
Nawazuddin Siddiqui flickered a discussion after slams the rise of what he called “fake films” during a session at NDTV Creators’ Manch Season 2,
His comment during a conversation about storytelling, truth in cinema and the responsibility movie makers may carry when influential public intellectual.
According to his concern, movie makers should evade pushing society in the wrong direction, specifically when spectators today are far more aware of the realities behind narratives depicted on screen.
He said, “Samaaj ko galat disha main le jaane ki zarurat nahi hai. Sachhai bohot important hai, aur sachhai her insaan aaj ki date mein jaanta hai. Jis tarah ki filmain ban rahi hain, unkey peechey ki sachhai kya hai, aap jaantey hain, lekin aap bolenge nahi,”
When asked about the rise of narrative-driven cinema, Siddiqui remarked that many films being made today are “fake.”
He response, “Nahi, jhoothi filmein ban rahi hain hamare yahan. Fake filmein ban rahi hain. Yeh sab jaante hain. Duniya mein kya ho raha hai, sab jaante hain. Asli sacchai kya hai, yeh bhi sab jaante hain. Kya jhooth phailaya ja raha hai, aur kya narrative set kiya ja raha hai — sab iske baare mein jaante hain,”

Even though Nawazuddin did not mention any exact movie name in his comments, but the statement he was released, quickly sparked rumor online. After video from the event surfaced on social media, users on X began discussion which movies the actor might have been mentioning to.
Some users suggested that the comments were aimed at films such as The Kerala Story and Dhurandhar, both of which have previously faced criticism from sections of viewers who labelled them propaganda-driven.
One user described Nawazuddin’s remarks as a “tight slap” to such films.
While another claimed he had indirectly called out their makers.
On the work front, Nawazuddin Siddiqui has some line up projects. The actor has been confirmed to join the cast of the much-anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed 2018 horror-fantasy film Tumbbad.
