American Support for Israel Massively Drops During Iran War: Poll
A new survey conducted by NBC News reveals a clear decline in support for Israel within the United States. The data, collected between February 27 and March 2, indicates that 39% of Americans now hold a negative opinion of Israel, while 32% maintain a positive view. This represents a significant shift from three years ago, when 47% of Americans viewed Israel positively compared to 34% who held a negative opinion. The report identifies the primary driver of this decline as growing criticism among Democrats and liberal voters.
The data highlights a stark contrast in partisan sentiment over recent years. In 2023, positive and negative opinions among Democrats were nearly equal; however, the new survey shows that only 13% of Democrats currently view Israel positively, while 57% hold a negative opinion. A similarly major change was observed among independent voters, where positive sentiment decreased from 40% to 21%, while negative sentiment increased from 22% to 48%.
Regarding the broader conflict, the survey found that the American public are now roughly divided on their sympathies. Currently, 40% of Americans express sympathy for Israel, while 39% sympathize with the Palestinians. These statistics mark a massive departure from 2013, when 45% of Americans sympathized with Israel and only 13% sympathized with the Palestinians. Furthermore, the survey revealed clear differences based on race and age, specifically noting a sharp decline in positive views of Israel among younger generations.
