Deadly Karachi Rain: Death Toll Reaches 19, 60 Injured

19 people were killed and several others injured in various accidents due to heavy rain accompanied by strong winds in different areas of Karachi.

Rain accompanied by strong winds lashed various areas including North Nazimabad, North Karachi, Surjani, FB Area, Saddar and Clifton. Rain accompanied by strong winds also lashed Cantt, Railway Colony, Delhi Colony, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulshan-e-Jamal and Garden.

According to rescue officials, 13 people died when a wall collapsed near Baldia Moach Goth.

According to the rescue spokesman, three people were injured in the wall collapse. The bodies and injured have been shifted to the hospital. Rescue teams are continuing to search the scene.

According to SSP Kemari, the roof of the second floor collapsed onto the first floor. This is not a residential building. Police personnel have reached the spot. Search and rescue operations are underway. There is a fear that more people may be trapped.

A rescue spokesman said that according to initial reports, the deceased were drug addicts. All the people gathered in the building due to the rain.

The Sindh Chief Minister took notice of the building collapse incident in Baldia Moach Goth and directed the district administration and rescue agencies to take immediate action.

Sindh Interior Minister Zia Lanjar and Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab reached Moach Goth. The interior minister and mayor of Karachi directed to immediately evacuate the people buried under the rubble and provide medical facilities to the injured.

Meanwhile, a woman and a man were killed and one person was injured when a wall of a house collapsed in Quaidabad Majeed Colony.

A person was killed by lightning near Malirandi Yaro Goth. A woman died when the roof of a house collapsed in Korangi 3.30, and a person died when a tree fell in Korangi 5.

The Meteorological Department says that there is no possibility of further rain at night, but there will be a possibility of rain after this afternoon. Heavy rain may occur in some places with strong winds and thunderstorms. There is also a possibility of hail in some places. There will be a possibility of light rain on the first day of Eid. During March 24 to 27, the westerly wind can also cause rain in Sindh, including Karachi.
