‘American Idol’ Bids Farewell to Julian Kalel After Heartfelt Journey

Julian Kalel was eliminated from American Idol Season 24 Top 11 on April 6, 2026 (ET), leaving fans heartbroken. Alongside Jake Thistle, Julian did not advance, but he emphasized that his musical journey is far from over. Sharing a monochrome stage photo on social media, he wrote:
“Thank you for your votes, your voices, your support, and for believing in me since the very beginning. Journey ain’t over yet, love every single one of y’all.”

The Top 11 results were delayed last week due to an “unprecedented volume of votes across multiple platforms,” leaving Julian and another contestant in limbo. The previous episode featured contestants performing songs of faith during a trip to Disney’s Aulani Resort in Hawaii, which also led to several eliminations.

Julian’s American Idol journey is especially notable as he previously auditioned for Season 23. While his audition aired partially, Julian performed an original song, Surrender, addressing his struggles with anxiety and depression. Judges Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie praised his talent, with Luke calling him “a star.”

However, Julian had to leave Season 23 before Hollywood Week to focus on his mental health. Diagnosed with anxiety and depression as a high school freshman, he revealed the challenges he faced growing up and the importance of professional support. Reflecting on his struggles, he said:
“For me, anxiety is just like a big wave crashing on you and you just drown.”

Returning in Season 24, Julian showcased his resilience and talent. He performed his original song Lone Guitar, written during a pivotal moment in his life, sharing the message: “stay one more day.” He explained, “You are loved, and everyone is born enough.” His journey on the show reflected personal growth, determination, and advocacy for mental health awareness.

Despite his elimination, Julian Kalel promises fans that this is only the beginning of his musical journey, leaving an inspiring message of hope and perseverance.
