Iran warns US over 'dangerous consequences' in Persian Gulf, Hormuz Strait
Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi stated that the provision of continued “dangerous consequences” by the USA on international shipping in now has significant ramifications for stability and security throughout the region and how recent actions taken by the USA would only help to destabilise the situation at sea in addition to worsening the stability of the land borders for nations bordering the Persian Gulf.
During his conversation with China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Wednesday, Abbas discussed recent developments including a pause in attack actions after a two-week period following the announcement by the USA of a cease fire between both parties
Former US President Donald Trump had earlier described a 10-point proposal from Iran as “a workable basis on which to negotiate.”
Nevertheless, after Iranian diplomats and political leaders from both nations met in Islamabad for discussions regarding ceasefire, the Iranian government indicated Washington created obstacles in negotiations by having ‘excessive demands.’ Iran also indicated that a complete cessation of all acts of aggression would be necessary for a negotiated settlement.
Araghchi complimented both countries for opposing an “unreasonable” draft of resolution that was proposed to the UN Security Council during the month of April. On April 7, both China and Russia also vetoed a resolution that placed pressure on Iran regarding the Strait of Hormuz. Iran stated that they were pressured due to actions taken by the United States and Israel.
He said the move by Beijing and Moscow helped prevent further escalation of tensions in the region.
Additionally, China’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi highlighted the courage exhibited by the Iranian population throughout their ordeal. Furthermore, he confirmed that China would do what they can to assist in conducting diplomatic activities aimed at decreasing tensions and establishing peace within the region.
