K-Electric Issues Heatwave Warning in Karachi as Temperatures Soar Above 45°C, Urges Public Precautions

03 May, 2026 10:56

K-Electric (KE) has urged residents of Karachi to take strict precautions as a severe heatwave grips the city, with authorities warning of extreme temperature conditions. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a formal heatwave alert, advising citizens to avoid unnecessary outdoor activity and strenuous physical exertion between 11am and 4pm, identified as peak heat hours.

K-Electric spokesperson Imran Rana stated, “As power demand escalates, KE is ready and committed to ensuring sustainable supply of electricity to Karachi. Our field teams remain on alert to ensure swiftest possible restoration of faults. However, we also urge the public to closely monitor the prevailing conditions and adhere to heatwave SOPs. KE remains in contact with all civic agencies and will cooperate to the best of its ability. Let this be a time when all public utilities stand together and be the representation of Karachi’s resilience.”

The utility confirmed it is working closely with electricity suppliers to maintain stable power distribution amid rising demand caused by extreme temperatures. Preventive maintenance shutdowns have been suspended, and economic load-shedding has also been paused as the Pakistan Meteorological Department reported apparent temperatures crossing 45°C.

Authorities have urged residents to take additional safety measures during peak heat, including staying hydrated, wearing light and breathable clothing, and protecting the head from direct sunlight.

The ongoing heatwave has raised concerns about public health and energy demand, with utility companies and civic agencies coordinating efforts to ensure safety and uninterrupted essential services across Karachi.
