Karachi University Teachers Boycott Semester Exams Starting May 5

05 May, 2026 11:34

The Karachi University Teachers’ Association has announced a boycott of semester examinations scheduled to begin on May 5 at the University of Karachi (UoK), creating uncertainty for thousands of students. The move has raised serious concerns over the continuity of academic activities at one of Pakistan’s leading universities.

The association stated that examinations will not proceed until its demands are addressed, putting the entire semester schedule at risk. According to the teachers, the decision comes after repeated failure by the university administration to resolve long-standing institutional and financial issues.

A general body meeting of Karachi University teachers has been scheduled for May 7 at 10:00 AM to review the situation and determine the next steps. The association also plans to approach the Chief Minister of Sindh, seeking intervention and financial accountability in university matters.

During internal discussions, it was highlighted that approximately Rs38.3 million is currently available in the university’s benevolent fund, which has become part of broader financial concerns raised by faculty members.

This is not the first time the teachers’ body has taken such action, as similar protests have occurred in the past. However, a notable development this time is that student organizations have reportedly refused to support the boycott, suggesting a growing divide within the campus community.

The ongoing dispute between faculty and administration now threatens to disrupt academic operations at Karachi University, leaving students uncertain about their upcoming examination schedule and overall semester progress.
