GB Election Commission Calls Circulated Notice on Riyaz Akbar Invalid and Fake
Gilgit-Baltistan Election Commission has reject a circulating social media notice about the disqualification of candidate Riyaz Akbar, saying it was fake.
The commission said in its statement that the document was not released by them and holds no legal or official status.
The commission added that the Provincial Election Commissioner’s name and signature were wrongly used on the fake notice, which is punishable by law. It was added that legal proceedings will be initiated against those who prepared and shared the fake document.
It advised people, media organizations and political parties, not to trust unverified news and to follow only official updates.
The commission added that only information shared through its official channels should be treated as genuine.
The commission also repeated its commitment to conducting elections, in a free, fair, and transparent elections in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Simultaneously, the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly elections are being held for 24 seats. It began in the morning and will continue uninterrupted until 5pm.
As many as 958,480 registered voters can cast their ballots, while more than 400 candidates are in the race.
