US Lawmaker Raises Alarm Over Detention of Palestinian-American Student

A prominent U.S. lawmaker has expressed concern over the detention of 20-year-old Palestinian-American student Sama Safi, who was reportedly taken from her family home in the occupied West Bank during a pre-dawn raid on June 2.

Congressman Derek Tran said he is “deeply alarmed” that Safi has been held without charge, calling her arrest part of a broader pattern of due process violations affecting Palestinians. He said she was taken in the middle of the night and remains in custody without formal charges.

Tran urged the U.S. administration to take diplomatic action to secure her release, stressing that American citizens abroad should be protected and that allies should be held to standards of legal fairness and human rights.
