Punjab Police on High Alert Across Province for 8th Muharram Security

Punjab Police has been placed on high alert across the province on the 8th of Muharram, with security arrangements further tightened for mourning processions and religious gatherings. According to the Punjab Police spokesperson, a total of 3,963 Majalis and 1,362 mourning processions are being held throughout the province today.

More than 60,000 police officers and personnel have been deployed to ensure security during Muharram events. Over 35,000 personnel have been assigned to protect Majalis, while more than 25,000 officers and officials are performing security duties along procession routes. In Lahore alone, 87 mourning processions and 425 Majalis are scheduled to take place.

In addition to Punjab Police, officials from the Traffic Police, Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), Special Branch, and other security agencies are participating in security operations. Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar directed Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and District Police Officers (DPOs) to personally supervise arrangements, emphasizing that no compromise would be made on the security of mourners. He also instructed authorities to maintain continuous monitoring through control rooms and CCTV cameras throughout the day.
