Venezuela Earthquake Relief: Global Millions & Rescue Teams
Relief efforts have intensified from around the world to help Venezuela, which has been rocked by two powerful earthquakes. Different countries, global administrations and philanthropical administrations have ongoing sending cash aid, rescue teams and emergency supplies to the pretentious areas, whereas the death toll is probable to increase more.
As per latest reports, on Wednesday, Two repeated earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 take at least 188 people lives, and injured more than 1500 people. While about 200 people are still reported to be buried under the debris. At least 250 buildings were severely damaged due to the earthquakes.
United Nations Relief and Works Agency chief Tom Fletcher said coordinated efforts are being made to deploy international search and rescue teams.
According to him, the international community will have to make joint and massive efforts to rehabilitate the victims in the coming days.
Fletcher recalled that even before the earthquake, about 8 million people in Venezuela were in need of humanitarian assistance, while this new disaster has made the situation even more serious.
A $150 million US aid package has been unveiled for Venezuela, pairing $50 million in bilateral support for the World Food Program and active non-profits with a major $100 million contribution to the United Nations humanitarian fund.
On the other hand, the Vatican has also allocated an immediate aid of 100,000 euros for the earthquake victims, while the well-known chef and founder of the World Central Kitchen, Jose Andres, has announced another 1 million dollars in aid while starting the series of providing food to the victims in Caracas.
Rescue operations are still underway and officials fear that the death toll may rise as the debris is cleared.
