Indian News Channels Continuously Targeted by Unidentified Hackers

A series of cyberattacks targeting prominent Indian television news channels has raised fresh concerns over the country’s digital security and broadcast infrastructure, with experts pointing to apparent vulnerabilities in critical media systems.

The latest incident reportedly targeted Republic TV, where unidentified hackers allegedly infiltrated the channel’s live broadcast during a programme hosted by Arnab Goswami, a television anchor widely known for his anti-Pakistan rhetoric.

According to experts, the cyber intrusion temporarily disrupted Republic TV’s transmission after the attackers reportedly gained access to the broadcaster’s management system. During the disruption, banners and videos were allegedly displayed on screen, interrupting the live programme.

The reported breach occurred on July 2, adding to a growing list of cyber incidents involving Indian broadcasters.

Cybersecurity experts say the repeated success of such attacks has raised serious questions about India’s digital defence capabilities and the security of its broadcast infrastructure.

Earlier, Sun TV Network was also reportedly targeted in a similar cyberattack. Reports of unusual interference have likewise emerged from TV9 Telugu, while Freedom TV Live and Freedom TV Kannada were also reportedly affected.

Experts further claim that ABP Live has faced cybersecurity challenges, highlighting what they describe as broader weaknesses in India’s digital media infrastructure.

According to cybersecurity analysts, the inability of some of India’s largest television networks to prevent repeated cyber intrusions has exposed shortcomings in the country’s broadcast security systems. They argue that the incidents point to both administrative and technical vulnerabilities in India’s satellite and broadcast management infrastructure, underscoring the need for stronger cyber defences.
