Israeli Envoy Says Lebanon Deal Tied to Security Conditions, Not Fixed Withdrawal Timeline

Israel’s ambassador to the United States, Yechiel Leiter, has said that the emerging arrangement between Israel and Lebanon is not centered on a fixed timetable for Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon. Instead, he suggested the agreement depends on security developments on the ground.
Speaking in a podcast interview on Thursday, Leiter said the core objective of the arrangement is the dismantling of Hezbollah’s military capabilities in southern Lebanon. He added that Israeli military presence would continue under current conditions until the Lebanese army establishes full control south of the Litani River and Hezbollah no longer maintains an armed presence in the area.
His remarks indicate that Israeli forces are unlikely to withdraw in the near term, linking any future pullback to security benchmarks rather than a set schedule. The comments reflect ongoing tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border amid broader regional instability.
