Pakistan Intensifies Backchannel Diplomacy to Prevent Iran-US Escalation

Pakistan has reportedly stepped up behind-the-scenes diplomatic efforts to help prevent a wider conflict between Iran and the United States amid rising military and political tensions in the region. According to diplomatic sources, senior civilian and military officials are actively engaging with key regional partners in an effort to de-escalate the crisis and avert a possible war.

Sources said Islamabad has been in close contact with senior officials in China, Qatar, Turkiye, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt as part of its diplomatic outreach. The primary objective of these consultations is to preserve the Islamabad understanding reached between the parties and prevent the regional situation from deteriorating further. Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni’s recent visit to Pakistan is also being viewed as part of these ongoing diplomatic efforts.

Diplomatic sources added that Pakistan has once again emerged as an important intermediary for Arab and Gulf countries during the crisis. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is reportedly holding daily discussions with his counterparts and other senior officials from friendly nations, while Pakistani authorities remain in direct contact with the US State Department, the White House, and US Central Command (CENTCOM). Islamabad’s immediate priority, the sources said, is to prevent further military strikes by either side and help revive stalled negotiations aimed at securing lasting regional stability.
