US Launches Fresh Strikes on Iran After Days-Long Pause
US forces have launched a new wave of airstrikes on Iran, targeting several areas including Qeshm Island, Sirik, Fars, Bushehr and Khuzestan.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed the operation, saying dozens of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) military targets were hit. The targets reportedly included military command centers, missile and drone facilities, as well as naval military sites.
According to CENTCOM, the strikes were carried out in response to attacks on US military bases in the Middle East. More than 1,000 US troops in the region are reportedly on high alert.
A US newspaper has claimed that the ongoing military operation against Iran could continue for up to two weeks. Israel could also be involved in future strikes, while Washington is considering several military and diplomatic options.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump had warned of a strong response after Iran launched missile attacks on US military bases, saying, “Iran fired missiles, now it’s our turn.”
Trump also said he would not be surprised if China provided Iran with air defence systems, adding that it remained to be seen whether a deal could now be reached.
