US Rejects Iran’s Claim of Strait of Hormuz Closure

The US military has rejected Iran’s claim that the Strait of Hormuz has been closed. In a statement on X, US Central Command (CENTCOM) said commercial activity through the important waterway is continuing as normal.

It said thousands of vessels have passed through the Strait of Hormuz over the past four months, showing that the waterway has not been completely closed.

The Strait of Hormuz is a major route for global trade and energy supplies. Large amounts of oil and other energy products pass through the waterway to different parts of the world. Any disruption could therefore affect global energy markets.

Iran had earlier claimed that its forces stopped two vessels trying to leave the Strait of Hormuz. Iran also said four other oil tankers were forced to turn back following intervention.

The conflicting claims have once again drawn international attention to the security situation around the Strait of Hormuz. Due to tensions between the US and Iran, the movement of ships through the strategic waterway is being closely monitored.
