Drone Strike Leaves Five Dead and Injures Six in Moscow Region

04 August, 2026 14:00

MOSCOW: A drone strike on an industrial area outside the Russian capital killed five people and injured six others, according to the region’s governor, as Russia and Ukraine continued to exchange attacks.

Ukraine has carried out long-range strikes on targets in Russia, including civilian infrastructure, and has recently increased attacks on warehouses linked to the Russian e-commerce company Wildberries.

Moscow’s regional governor Andrey Vorobyov said several fires broke out early Tuesday after a drone strike in the Novoselki industrial zone outside Moscow.

“According to preliminary information, five people were killed and a further six wounded,” he said on Telegram.

Drones also damaged a warehouse near Krasny Bor in northwestern Russia, injuring one person, Leningrad regional governor Aleksandr Drozdenko said. Wildberries said a fire broke out at its Krasny Bor logistics facility following the attack.

Meanwhile, Russian attacks in Ukraine killed two children and an elderly woman in the northeastern city of Sumy, according to the head of the regional military administration.

“Two children and an elderly woman were killed in Russian (guided aerial bomb) strikes on Sumy tonight,” Oleg Grygorov said on Telegram.

“The girls were 5 and 10 years old. The children’s bodies were recovered from under the rubble of their house.”

Grygorov said six guided aerial bombs hit civilian infrastructure in Sumy, damaging residential and non-residential buildings.

Another Russian attack on the southern Ukrainian port city of Mykolaiv killed an 89-year-old woman, according to regional military administration chief Georgy Reshetilov.

Russia launched its full-scale offensive against Ukraine in February 2022 and has continued to carry out attacks across the country, including from the Crimean peninsula.

According to AFP analysis of data from the Institute for the Study of War, the front lines in Ukraine changed little in July as Ukrainian forces largely slowed Russia’s advance.
