PM Shehbaz Sharif Meets Syrian Foreign Minister, Reaffirms Support for Syria’s Sovereignty

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday received Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani and his high-level delegation, welcoming them to Pakistan and conveying his best wishes to Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa. The prime minister recalled his recent meetings with the Syrian president and reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong support for Syria’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.

Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the historic and deep-rooted ties between Pakistan and Syria, stressing the need to translate friendly relations into practical political, defense and trade cooperation. He also called for greater collaboration in investment, education and human-resource development, while emphasizing that the restoration of direct flights between the two countries would strengthen people-to-people contacts and facilitate travel for Pakistani pilgrims visiting Syria. He further assured the Syrian foreign minister that Pakistan would continue to strongly support Syria’s position on the occupied Golan Heights.

Al-Shaibani conveyed President Ahmad al-Sharaa’s best wishes to Prime Minister Shehbaz and briefed him on the situation in Syria and reconstruction efforts. He thanked Pakistan for its consistent support over the years and said the Syrian government was keen to further strengthen friendly relations with Pakistan, expressing a desire to establish formal institutional mechanisms for cooperation at the earliest. Prime Minister Shehbaz also invited President al-Sharaa to visit Pakistan. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi and other officials attended the meeting.
