Trump Names Adam Telle as Acting US Secretary of the Army

04 September, 2026 12:40

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has appointed Adam Telle as the acting Secretary of the Army following the resignation of Dan Driscoll.

According to US media reports, Trump announced in a social media post that Telle, who serves as the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works, would take over as acting secretary.

Telle has been serving in the Army’s civilian leadership structure, overseeing responsibilities related to civil works.

Telle’s appointment follows the resignation of Dan Driscoll, who stepped down from the position after reportedly facing disagreements with Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth.

Driscoll did not provide a detailed explanation for his resignation, while the US Army also did not immediately comment on the circumstances surrounding his departure.

The leadership change adds to a series of recent senior-level changes within the US military establishment.

Earlier, Hegseth unexpectedly removed General Randy George from his position in April.

In another major development, General Christopher Donahue, who had been serving in a senior command role overseeing US military operations in Europe and Africa, resigned unexpectedly in June.

The latest appointment therefore comes amid continued changes in the senior US defence leadership, as the Trump administration reviews military command structures and senior civilian positions.

Adam Telle will now serve as acting Army secretary while the administration considers the future permanent leadership of the US Army.
