Iran Offers US Seven-Day Plan to End War and Reopen Strait of Hormuz

NEW YORK: Iran has proposed a plan to the United States to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in New York.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, Araghchi said the Strait of Hormuz could be reopened within seven days and negotiations could resume if specific conditions were met.

He said Iran had conveyed the proposal to US officials through mediators. Under the plan, negotiations could restart with the aim of ending the conflict and reaching a final agreement between Tehran and Washington.

Iran Sets Conditions for Hormuz Reopening

According to the proposal, the measures include a ceasefire across the Middle East and steps to ease US economic pressure and the naval blockade against Iran.

AFP reported that Iran is also seeking the release of frozen Iranian assets and relief from sanctions on Iranian oil as part of the proposed arrangement.

Araghchi said the seven-day period could begin as soon as the United States accepts the plan, with the Strait of Hormuz reopening on the seventh day.

The Iranian foreign minister indicated that Tehran was now waiting for Washington’s response.

Strait of Hormuz Under Global Focus

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important maritime routes for energy transportation, carrying a major share of global oil and gas shipments.

Recent fighting and regional tensions have significantly reduced commercial shipping through the waterway, putting additional pressure on international energy supplies and markets.

The Iranian proposal comes amid continued diplomatic efforts to find a way to end the conflict and restore freedom of navigation through the strategic strait.
