Pezeshkian Welcomes China’s Support for Return to Islamabad MoU

TEHRAN: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has welcomed Chinese President Xi Jinping’s support for reviving the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Iran and the United States.

In a post on social media platform X, Pezeshkian said he appreciated what he described as Xi’s wise and responsible support for returning to the Islamabad MoU and resolving differences through dialogue and diplomacy.

The Iranian president said Tehran also supported the approach and considered a return to the Islamabad MoU important for creating conditions for serious, meaningful and results-oriented negotiations.

Pezeshkian stressed the importance of respecting previously agreed commitments and creating an environment conducive to substantive diplomatic engagement.

He also said that alignment between Tehran and Beijing on respect for sovereignty, de-escalation and the preservation of regional peace and stability could provide a strong foundation for future cooperation.

Chinese President Xi Jinping had expressed support for returning to the Islamabad MoU during his meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House. Recent diplomatic contacts have continued to keep the framework under discussion.
