The Mauja Hi Mauja singer said, “Pakistan bura nahin. Pakistan ke log kahin se bure nahin hain. Ye bas pata nahin kyun humein Pakistan ke hi Musalman kharaab lagte hain. Lekin Dubai ke Musalman bahut achhe lagte hain. Ye mujhe aaj tak nahin samajh aaya.”
The singer also recalled the support he received from Pakistani Muslims at Sikh religious sites.
“When I went to Pakistan, many Muslims who are our brothers have served at the gurdwaras and helped with the cleaning,” he said.
Mika added that places such as Nankana Sahib and Panja Sahib hold a special personal meaning for him as a Sikh.
Speaking about Indian artists performing in Pakistan, the Pungi singer took a measured stance. He said he had no problem with Pakistani singers performing in India and defended artists who travel to Pakistan for professional work.
“If you go there for a private function, perform, take your money and come back to India, that is different. You are not hiding when you go there,” he said.
Mika’s comments come years after he faced a brief ban from Indian film bodies in 2019 following his performance at a pre-wedding event in Karachi.
The ban was lifted later that month after Mika publicly apologised at a press conference attended by officials from the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE).
