Oil Tanker Hit by Projectile Near Strait of Hormuz, 11 Indians Injured

Muscat: A Panama-flagged oil tanker was struck by an unidentified projectile near Oman’s coast in the Strait of Hormuz, injuring 12 people, including 11 Indian nationals.
The vessel, identified as the MT On Peace, was targeted while transiting the strategically important waterway, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations.
The circumstances surrounding the incident and the identity of those responsible have not been established.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs said the incident occurred on October 6 and that 19 people were aboard the vessel, including 17 Indian nationals.
Of the 12 people injured, 11 were Indian citizens, the ministry said.
Omani authorities evacuated the injured from the tanker and transferred them to Khasab for medical treatment.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial route for international oil and gas shipments.
Restrictions on shipping through the waterway amid the wider Iran conflict have already disrupted energy supplies and contributed to volatility in global oil and gas markets.
