Tom Cruise Breaks Silence After Digger Struggles at Box Office
Tom Cruise has shared a subtle message following the disappointing box office performance of his latest film, Digger.
Directed by The Revenant filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu, the dark comedy features Cruise alongside Sandra Hüller, John Goodman and Riz Ahmed. The film also sees Cruise taking on a different kind of role.
However, Digger failed to meet box office expectations, earning around $20 million during its opening weekend. The film reportedly had a production budget of between $125 million and $180 million.
Following the film’s weak box office performance, a previous statement from Cruise has gained attention. The Mission: Impossible star explained that he does not approach filmmaking with a focus on how much a movie will make during its opening weekend.
“When I am making [movies], I’m not going, ‘Opening weekend!’ I feel very much like we’re going to make something that is a lasting piece of cinema,” the 64-year-old actor said.
Despite the slow start, Digger has continued to earn money at the box office. Its current worldwide collection stands at around $20.5 million to $21.7 million.
