14 October, 2026 20:13

Senator Sherry Rehman, speaking during a Senate session in Islamabad, said the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had endured significant hardships and made sacrifices since the era of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. She said she was part of the negotiating team and emphasized that eliminating terrorism remained the country’s top priority, with counterterrorism at the forefront of the discussions.

Rehman said the draft agreement was supposed to be signed and that the parties had been seated as mediators. She added that the PPP had insisted on exhausting every possible option to resolve the issues through dialogue. According to Rehman, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had described negotiations as the last option available to them.

The senator said PTI leaders should have been present at the session, while acknowledging that the party’s negotiating team had made every effort. She also praised the role played by the opposition leader in the discussions.

National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has issued production orders for opposition lawmakers Sanaullah Mastikhel and Dawar Kundi. The orders have been issued for the ongoing session of the National Assembly to facilitate their attendance.

President Asif Ali Zardari has summoned a joint sitting of Parliament for 11:00 am tomorrow under Article 54(1) of the Constitution. The National Assembly Secretariat has issued the official notification for the joint session.
