Bollywood Actor Imran Khan to Challenge India’s Exit Notice in Bombay High Court
Bollywood actor Imran Khan is arranging to challenge a notice aiming him to leave India, with his legal team preparation to reach the Bombay High Court, according to Indian media reports.
The actor was reportedly issued a notice by Mumbai Police over alleged violations of laws related to foreign citizenship and political activities. Reports about the notice came to light after Imran joined in a public protest at August Kranti Maidan in Mumbai.
As per reports, authorities upraised complaints to his involvement in the protest, citing his status as a US citizen and an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholder. Officials reportedly maintain that his citizenship status restricts him from participating in certain local political activities.
However, Imran’s legal team reportedly argues that taking part in the protest cannot automatically be considered unlawful under the applicable laws. Based on this position, his lawyers are preparing to challenge the notice before the Bombay High Court.
The notice issued by the police and immigration authorities reportedly directs the actor to leave India by October 28.
His planned legal challenge is expected to seek relief from the order. The case could bring further attention to the rules governing OCI cardholders and their participation in political activities in India.
