Saudi Coalition Intercepts Two Ballistic Missiles Launched by Houthi Militia

18 October, 2026 09:34

The Saudi-led coalition said it intercepted and destroyed two ballistic missiles launched by Yemen’s Houthi Militia toward Khamis Mushait in southwestern Saudi Arabia on Sunday.

Coalition spokesperson Turki al-Maliki confirmed the interceptions in a statement posted on X.

Before the announcement, Saudi Civil Defense issued “potential danger” alerts in Riyadh and the southwestern cities of Abha and Khamis Mushait through the country’s national early warning system. The agency later confirmed that the threat had passed.

On Saturday, al-Maliki said coalition forces had also intercepted and destroyed four drones over several hours in the Riyadh region, the Eastern Province and southern Saudi Arabia.

The coalition also released footage that it said showed airstrikes destroying two ballistic missile launchers in Saada, northern Yemen. According to the coalition, the launchers had been used to fire missiles toward Saudi Arabia.

The latest developments come amid continued military escalation between Saudi Arabia and the Houthi Militia since July. The confrontation has included attacks targeting civilian aviation facilities and energy infrastructure in the kingdom.

Saudi Arabia has led a military coalition since March 2015 in support of Yemen’s internationally recognized government against the Houthi Militia, which has controlled the capital, Sanaa, and several other provinces since September 2014.
