Trump Says US Could Leave Iran War Soon, Rules Out Tehran Acquiring Nuclear Weapons

US President Donald Trump has said the United States could leave the war with Iran soon, while insisting that Tehran would not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons.
Speaking at an election rally in Kansas, Trump said Iran’s military capabilities and leadership had suffered severe damage. He described the country’s navy, air force, radar systems and air defences as destroyed.
Trump also said 229 Iranian fighter jets had been destroyed on runways and asserted that Iran’s senior leadership had been largely eliminated. These military assessments were part of his remarks and have not been independently verified here.
The US president further alleged that Iranian leaders had sought assurances that they would not be targeted like their predecessors. He also referred to the US killing of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani during his first presidential term and made an unverified statement about the number of protesters killed in Iran over the past eight months.
Trump criticised European countries for not supporting the United States over Iran. He described Washington’s request for European assistance as a test and said he would not forget the lack of support.
He urged European governments to reconsider their policies and strengthen border controls, warning that the United States might have to withdraw from Europe if its approach did not change. Trump argued that Washington had stood by European countries despite what he described as their shortcomings.
His comments came amid continuing uncertainty over the course of the conflict and the future of US-Iran relations. Although Trump indicated that Washington could end its involvement soon, he did not provide a specific timetable or outline the conditions for a withdrawal.
The president reiterated that preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons remained a central US objective. The prospect of a US exit, however, leaves questions about the future security arrangements in the region and whether a diplomatic settlement can prevent renewed hostilities.
