Actor James Earl Jones passes away

Renowned actor actor James Earl Jones, known for his voices of the Star Wars villain Darth Vader, has died aged 93.

The actor was suffering from a longtime of diabetes and passed away at his home surrounded by family members, his agent, Barry McPherson, said.

He starred in dozens of films including Field of Dreams, Coming To America, Conan the Barbarian and The Lion King, however, his is best known for giving the Star Wars supervillain Darth Vader his voice.

Mark Hamill, who played Vader’s son Luke Skywalker in Star Wars, paid a touching tribute to the late actor by posing “RIP Dad” with a broken heart emoji.

During his iconic career, he won three Tony awards including two Emmys and a Grammy, as well as an honorary Oscar in 2011 for lifetime achievement.

Jones laughed when a BBC interviewer asked if he resented being so closely tied to Darth Vader.

“I love being part of that whole myth, of that whole cult,” he said, adding that he was glad to oblige fans who asked for a command recital of his “I am your father” line to Luke Skywalker, played by Mark Hamill.

He began his movie career playing Lieutenant Luther Zogg in Stanley Kubrick’s 1964 classic “Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.”
