Aerial firing & carrying / display of arms on New Year Eve banned in Karachi

Commissioner Karachi Muhammad Saleem Rajput in a notification has banned carrying/display of arms, aerial firing and use of firework for two days (31Dec – 1stJan).

Commissioner said that the ban was imposed under Section 144 of the criminal procedure code (CrPC) to safeguard the people of the city during New Year’s celebrations.

According to a notification, the commissioner while exercising powers delegated by the provincial home department imposed the ban from Dec 31 to Jan 1, 2024.

All SHOs have been authorised to register complaints under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code in writing for the violation of Section 144 of the CrPC, the notification added.

AIG Karachi has also warned the citizens that charges of attempted murder will be added in the FIRs against those involved in aerial firing on the occasion of New Year’s Eve.

Karachi Traffic Police to use breathalysers on New Year’s Eve

Additional Inspector General (AIG) Karachi Khadim Hussain Rind ordered Karachi traffic police chief DIG Iqbal Dara to ensure a smooth flow of traffic on New Year’s night. Traffic police will randomly check vehicles with breathalyser (alcohol level checking device).

For new year eve Karachi Police to arrest and register cases against drivers being under influence of alcohal – narcotics, adding their vehicles to be seized as well.

Earlier on Thursday, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar had completely banned all kinds of events regarding the New Year celebrations to express solidarity with the oppressed Palestinians.
