Afghanistan players turn chefs in West Indies, Here’s why

For the Afghanistan cricket team, the T20 World Cup 2024 Super-Eight match in Bridgetown, Barbados, came with an unexpected challenge.

The non-availability of halal meat, a dietary requirement for the Muslims, at their hotel forced the players to don aprons and cook their own meals.

This logistical hurdle added an extra layer of complexity to their preparation for the crucial match against India.

While halal meat is available in the Caribbean, not all hotels and restaurants include it in their menu, leading to difficulties for teams with specific dietary needs.

“Halal meat is not available in our hotel. Sometimes we cook on our own or sometimes we go out,” a team spokesperson mentioned.

India thumped Afghanistan by 47 runs at the Kensington Oval here on Thursday to make an ideal start to the Super 8 stage.

Afghanistan is set to face Australia in their next match on Saturday in St. Vincent.
