Afghanistan stun Australia; stay alive in semi-final race

Afghanistan created history by defeating Australia by 21 runs in the Super 8 stage match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

The Afghan cricket team, while batting first, had given Australia a target of 149 runs to win. In reply, Kangaroos were bowled out for 127 runs.

In the 48th match of T20 World Cup, Australia won the toss and decided to field first against Afghanistan.

Batting first, the Afghanistan team scored 148 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Afghan openers Rahmanullah Garbaz and Ibrahim Zadran gave the team a brilliant start with a partnership of 118 runs. Rahmanullah Garbaz scored 60 runs off 49 balls with the help of 4 sixes and 4 fours, while Ibrahim Zadran scored 51 runs off 48 balls with the help of 6 fours. Karim Jannat made  13 runs while Mohammad Nabi remained not out by scoring 10 runs.

Australia’s Pat Cummins took 3 wickets for 28 runs in his 4 overs to claim his second consecutive hat-trick in the current T20 World Cup. Cummins has become the first bowler in the world to take two consecutive hat-tricks in the T20 World Cup. Adam Zampa claimed 2 and Marcus Stynes ​​managed to get 1 wicket.

It should be noted that both the teams in Group 1 of Super 8 stage of T20 World Cup are playing their second match.

Earlier, in the first match of the Super 8 stage, the Afghanistan team faced defeat against India, while the Australian team was able to win against Bangladesh.
